The countryside in the province of Chubut outside Puerto Madryn is comprised of very dry, unforested, rolling hills with a few bluffs and cliffs thrown in for interest.
The River Chubut seems to be the only important source of water upon which any development depends.
Near the river, there are farms and ranches, small towns like Trelew and Gaiman, and other small areas of development.
Looking at this area on Google Earth, the dark areas of development and vegetation are crowded around the River Chubut.
